Lingerie Care 101: Make Your Lace Last

Delicate pieces deserve gentle care. Here is how to keep your lace soft, your elastic springy and your colors rich for years.

Beautiful lingerie is an investment in how you feel. With a little care, your favorite pieces will stay soft, supportive and stunning for seasons to come.

Hand wash whenever you can

Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of gentle, lingerie-friendly detergent. Swirl your pieces for a few minutes, let them soak briefly, then rinse in clean cool water.

If you must machine wash

  • Fasten every hook so it cannot snag the lace.
  • Use a mesh lingerie bag.
  • Choose the delicate cycle and cold water.

Never use the dryer

Heat is the enemy of elastic and lace. Gently press out excess water with a towel — never wring — and lay flat or hang by the center gore to air dry.

Store with love

Keep molded cups in shape by nesting bras inside one another rather than folding them in half. Fold bodysuits and teddies loosely and store them in a drawer away from rough fabrics and zippers.

And finally: rotate. Giving each piece a day off between wears lets the elastic recover, so your lingerie keeps its perfect fit.
